This painting centers on explosive energy and heat. The molten reds and oranges radiate like fire or lava, creating the feeling of something igniting from within. Bright arcs of light sweep across the canvas like streams of electricity or sparks flying from a blast, while the darker edges frame the intensity at the core. As the summer warmed up to ungodly temperatures out here in Arizona, I wanted to find creative ways to use the heat to my advantage, and many of these techniques I used for this painting benefit from having a warm environment: the fluid motions, the glass-like epoxy resin top coat, and the airbrush mechanism all coherently work together with less friction and more fluidity. This painting, like many of mine, pushes the dynamic of fluid movement and precise geometry; I find that this dynamic amplifies each other, and captures my imagination.
